Since you will often be accessing “less important” login details like Forum logins, Digg accounts, etc, we use an Access Code to open 1Password.
The Access Code is a 4 digit number that allows you to quickly open 1Password without entering your full Master Password. Since the Access Code is short and only contains digits it can be entered very quickly, but as a consequence items protected only by the Access Code are not as secure.

For items that require a higher level of security, such as bank accounts, a real password is needed to keep your data safe and secure.
These types of accounts are used less frequently so requiring a full password to be typed when using them will not be a burden.

You can configure each item in 1Password to be protected by your Master Password. In 1Password for Mac this is called a Security Level.

Users of 1Password for Mac will want to keep their iPhone/iPod touch data in sync with their Mac.
To start the sync process, tap on the Sync icon to bring up the Sync screen.

The local network will be searched for any running 1Password applications. If none are found you will be presented with the Search screen as 1Password continues to search:

To sync with your Mac, start 1Password on your Mac and then open the iPhone Sync window by selecting Sync > Sync to iPhone… menu item:

Check out all the details Here

DOT Tunes

DOT.Tunes

Are you frustrated with the 4 or 8 gig limit on your iPhone? The advantages of splitting your One Huge Photo Library into multiple, smaller ones include improved iPhoto performance, increased flexibility in organizing your digital photo collection, and a consistency with most other Mac applications that allow their respective data to be stored in as many documents (in this case, "Libraries") as you like.
iPhoto Buddy uses a simple, streamlined interface that was inspired by iPhoto itself. Anyone that has used iPhoto will immediately feel right at home using iPhoto Buddy. It truly is a companion application--a real buddy!

iPhoto Buddy will never alter/move/delete your Libraries or your photo files. It's perfectly safe!

What can you do with it?

With iPhoto Buddy, you can easily manage an entire list of iPhoto Libraries, enabling you to quickly and easily open the Library of your choice for viewing/editing/printing in iPhoto.
You can easily switch between your multiple Libraries, and iPhoto Buddy will automatically quit iPhoto and instantly re-launch it with the newly selected Library (iPhoto can only have one Library open at a time).
There is no limit to the number of Libraries, and they can be located in various locations--even on external hard disk drives, network volumes, or encrypted disk images. Each Library can be assigned its own name that differs from its folder name in the Finder; each Library can be assigned a thumbnail image that can help to remind you of its contents; and each Library can be password protected for privacy/security.
iPhoto Buddy also displays various details about your Libraries without launching iPhoto. Information like each Library's size and image count as well as a complete listing of the Albums, Smart Albums, Folders, Books, Slide Shows, etc. contained therein.

And in keeping with the enhanced integration of the iApps that Apple introduced with the original iLife package, iPhoto Buddy also allows you to open iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb using any of your iPhoto Libraries for importing photos into your Movies, DVDs and websites.

In fact with iPhoto Buddy, any application that contains a Media Browser for accessing your iPhoto Library, can used with ANY of your iPhoto Libraries.

What are the system requirements?

iPhoto Buddy requires a Macintosh computer running OS X 10.3.9 or later, and iPhoto 2 or later. iPhoto Buddy is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, as well as 10.4 Tiger and 10.3 Panther. iPhoto Buddy is fully compatible with iLife '04, iLife '05, iLife '06, and iLife '08.

How does it work?

If you're like me, you prefer to understand exactly what a new program is doing with the precious information on your computer. In addition, you can download the whole planet or squares off the website.

You can program your own graphics, create airports, new aircraft and reprogram flight controls and response to suit your preferences. The graphics limited only by your imagination.

The FlightGear website abounds with links and tutorials. Easy to use interface provides your options onscreen so you don't have to search through menus. As the pilot, you can control the weather and integrate real world weather conditions. You can even shadow yourself in a chase plane that banks with your own, dodge AI traffic or enjoy multiplayer action over your network.

Graphics are very close in quality to its competitor's and the performance is superb, faithful to the developers' stated intention that eye candy should not compromise performance. Therefore FlightGear graphics aren't quite as glitzy as the competition but the performance gain more than makes up for it; flights are smooth with no hesitation and there's even a landable aircraft carrier off the California coast.

There are a few minor weaknesses such as ground handling and less than perfect audio feedback. The simulator doesn't have collision detection so you might land just fine on water without pontoons!

All in all, FlightGear packs in a lot of extras you'll not find in other simulators and since development is ongoing there's usually something new to enhance this one-of-a-kind experience.

Pencil

Pencil

Pascal Naidon and Patrick Corrieri are the developers of Pencil an animation/drawing software for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. I don't know why, maybe Apple think whatever size cable they put in the box won't be the right size, or maybe it's just a way for them to save a money. Whatever the reason please just be aware if you don't have a spare network cable in a box somewhere in your house your going to have to go buy one.

I took a few un-boxing pictures while I went through everything, I think it's just something you have to do nowadays with Apple products, then prepared to set Time Capsule up for the first time.

I'll explain the positioning of my Time Capsule quickly, it will become apparent why I do this later on.
I have a Plasma TV mounted on the wall in my living room, with a small door in the corner allowing me excess behind it to get to all the plugs and wiring etc. I've installed a few shelves, back there where I have my Linksys WAG 54 G router.

I've placed my Time Capsule and a few external HDD's connected via a Kingston 7 port USB hub. It's a bit crowded, but everything is out of sight and no one gets to see the pile of cable that could easily be mistaken for spaghetti.

Once i'd got the Time Capsule in place it was time for the setup.
I installed the disc with the new Airport software on it, that was straight forward as you'd expect, then plugged in the Time Capsule.

The setup via Airport Utility was straight forward and took less than 10 minutes. I chose the manual setup, enabled WPA encryption etc.

Once this was done I was ready for my first backup. This didn't go according to plan, I got the preparing message in a little box for about 30 minutes.
After trying it again with the same results I decided to do the auto setup option, this took very little time and once I opened Time Machine preferences and chose the disk for the backup, it started straight away with no problems.

Earlier on in the day I had moved my itunes library to an external HDD via FW800, once I verified it was OK I deleted it from my MBP, I also chose not to back up any movie files and a few other things, to help reduce the size of my first Time Capsule backup.

I was left with about 46 GB of files to back up using Time Capsule. Once I set Time Machine away doing the back up, it was apparent it was going to take a while.
In total it took just over 8 hrs to backup the 46 GB. As I mentioned earlier, because of the placement of the Time Capsule I was expecting a slow transfer speeds, and I got it.
I did move my MBP closer to the Time Capsule and did see a improvement in the transfer speeds. The speeds I got were about 3.5 mb/s and when I moved it closer to the Time Capsule this improved to about 7.0 mb/s.

Overall I'm very happy with Time Capsule. I'm now able to move about the house again freely with my MBP, no more tied to the desk with multiple HDD's attached to it.

Apple have now released Time Machine and Airport Updates v1.0 which improves compatibility for Time Machine and Time Capsule.

From what has been said on a few of the blog sites, it's also enabled Time Machine backup's to external HDD's attached to Airport Extreme's, although as of yet Apple have not officially said this.

Pathos Software

I came across Pathos Software, they've got some nice app's.
They've been developing for the Mac since 1987.

Check out Photo Express, a nice photo app that can resize, add watermarks, text and more for only €5.

And Covers, which will search, download and print your CD and DVD covers for you.

Evernote invitations.

Surfbits Mac ReviewCast have 1000 private Beta invitations to EverNote available through their website.

Just go to Surfbits and click the Evernote image in this week's show and you've a chance of getting a private Beta invite.

SURFBITS MAC REVIEWCAST

Apple TV

Although I feel that the Apple TV take 2 is a improvement on the first offering from Apple, It's still not enough to make me feel like I need one.

It still hasn't got enough features to justify the cost yet in my opinion. BUT

NO 3G!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a surprise, especially as O2 have said they only have 30% coverage. There is the benefit of the free WiFi from The Cloud.net and their 7500 hotspots, but its something I wouldn't get much use of.
I could live with the speed (or lack of speed) of EDGE if I knew that I would be able to use the iPhone when I wanted to but with only 30% coverage I dont think that there will be many place's to pick up a EDGE signal.
The UK has massive 3G coverage. O2 has along with every other network operator in the UK made a massive investment over the years in 3G and to spend money now downgrading just doesn't make sense, I cant see them continuing the investment once the 3G iPhone is released. The shareholders wont want that.

I have said that no 3G means no iPhone for me, BUT I may be changing my mind. I booked a holiday at work for the 9th November and was about to pay for a return ticket to the Glasgow Apple store but then started thinking about the extra cost of the tickets added to the cost of the phone plus whatever else I manage to buy on the day would all add up to a rather expensive iPhone. So I'm now back to thinking that waiting till maybe march 08 to get a phone I can use anywhere in the UK with a larger memory, 3G and whatever else they might add is a better idea.

As for the price plans:

O2 has a £15 a month price plan with 200 anytime voice minutes and 400 text messages without a contract, so the unlimited data plan is actually costing you £20 a month along with a 18 month contract and your getting 200 text messages a month less.........

So...... What to do.......................

One thing I cant understand is that there are people already saying that the price of the iPhone is actually £899 (£35 x 18 months + £269).
This I dont understand. I wouldn't say my car cost £10,000 + 3 years of petrol payments and service costs..................

Anyway one thing that's made me a very happy person is that O2 will have a dedicated UK care facility for iPhone owners, that it's self is worth paying a little extra for in my book.

iPhone is crap say Vodafone!!!

If anyone's with Vodafone and is thinking of getting an iPhone, you've got to tell them you want the iPhone when you phone for the address to send your cancellation letter to.

The conversation I had with there cancelation department went a little like this:

Me- I want the address to send my cancellation letter to please.
VF- Sure it's ***** ***** *****
Me- Thanks.
VF- Can I ask why you want to cancel?
Me- I want an iPhone.
VF- Your going to pay £300 for a iPhone.
Me- It's £270.
VF- You do realize it's been absolutely slated in the last few days since it came out, they say it's really crap.
Me- Not by all the people in the US who have already bought it.
VF- AH but they've changed all the technology in it for the UK market.
Me- No they haven't it's the exact same phone.
VF- No it's not, they have taken the 3G out and replaced it with a slower kind of technology.
Me- The iPhone has never been 3G in the US, it's always been EDGE.
VF- Well they have changed a lot of the other spec's.
Me- I think you'll find it is the exact same phone mate. Especially as the UK spent 325 million on MMS last year.
I know there is E-mail to send pic's , fair enough if the other person has an iPhone, but it's a nightmare setting up and using e-mail on most other types of phone.
8Gig is OK with me as I'd keep my whole music library on my 30Gig iPod video.

The main thing is the Bluetooth I think I can only use this as a means to connect to a headset or handsfree kit and not to swap files, Bluetooth is the way I swap files and pictures etc with most of my friends and I'm not sure if this can be changed in a software update.

Pixelmator

Pixelmator is now ready to come out of private beta and straight into a full working release on sale 25th September 07.

I've just purchased my license key for it ready for the general release on the 25th.

At $59 it's a an excellent purchase especially if you consider that Adobe has just updated it's Photoshop Elements app for the PC to number 6 and not bothered updating Elements 4 for the Mac which is still PPC.

Don McAllister from ScreenCastsOnline will be doing a free screen cast of Pixelmator so check out ScreenCastsOnline for a excellent Pixelmator video tutorial.

Amazon Downloads!!!!!

I've just been doing a little bit of music shopping on the new Amazon MP3 download site.
Great site I thought, found some music to download, then came the surprise........

USA only, for $.89 for a song I thought id found an alternative site to use apart from iTunes.
I logged in clicked on what I wanted to purchase, selected my payment method, then I was asked to enter an alternate address.

??????? A long cold wait ahead I thought.
I was surprised at how quick the time passed, we got talking to people around us, some of whom already had iPhones with them (seems strange to see people standing in the que for something they already have in there pocket but I suppose thats the appeal of the iPhone)

At 2pm the store closed it's doors and the windows were covered up.
At 5.30pm the covers came down and the countdown clock appeared in the window.

Then the Apple staff gave us the 10 second countdown and the clock struck to 6.02, the door's opened and we were led in. Surrounded by Apple staff all cheering and clapping us in and around the store to collect our iphones.

A very strange experience, all adding to the excitement of getting my iPhone.

After waiting about 4 and a half hours in the que outside, the time came to actually get my iPhone. about 30 minutes before we went in we were told by an Apple employee what would happen when the doors opened, he also mentioned that they would be taking cash ( strange I thought as Apple had only announced about a week before that NO cash would be excepted for the iPhone.

At the till you could sense the excitement in everybody there including the Apple employee's. Then I paid for my iPhone, we then decided not to hang around the store, but instead to head straight home as we had a 3 hour drive ahead of us.

Getting out of Glasgow at 6.20pm was a bit of a nightmare with the traffic, also the sat nav would could not pick up a signal as the buildings were so tall around us.
So we headed out of town in any direction until the sat nav started to work and guided us back onto the motor-way on our way home. NOT without incident though, but I wont go into that.

Driving home knowing that my iPhone was only a few feet away and I'd have to wait about 3 hours before I could play with it was killing me.
We made good time on the way home as you'd expect........... and by 9.15pm we were back in the house. (12 Hours)

After a quick shower and a chip buttie (sandwich) I was sitting at my Macbook pro with my Iphone ready to activate. 30 minutes later I was up and running having activated and synced my iPhone.

I'll write a little more later to let you know how it's going so far....................

Fon

Just installed my FON router.

WHAT'S a FON router I hear you ask?
Well I'll tell you, Fon is a product (router) that you plug into your existing router. It broadcasts a public signal and a private signal.

If you buy the FON router, you get free WiFi anywhere in the world that other FON members are broadcasting a signal, simply by logging on with your FON username and password.
You can also make money from others logging on and surfing using your public connection.

The public one as you'd expect is a open connection for people that have registered with FON and have bought air time off them, or other FON router owners use for free.
The private signal is a personal WPA encrypted connection for you to share with your friends/ family, or whom ever you choose to allow access.
The signal strength of the La Fonera (FON router) is excellent.

Please check out the FON MAP HERE to view all FON hotspots.

BE Broadband

Just had my line activated after switching to BE Broadband upto 24Meg.

Actually getting between 9 and 17Meg at the moment, ISP says it could take a couple of weeks to settle down.

I'm very happy with these speeds though.
